Encore Screening of “Disfluency” and Year-Round Programming at the Wright Opera House

2022 Winner of Best Feature Film and Audience Choice Award + OIFF will continue it’s film series at the Wright Opera House through December.

Come see Anna Baumgarten’s award-winning film Disfluency at the Wright Opera House on April 10! Baumgarten’s film, which netted prizes for Best Feature and the Audience Choice Award at the Ouray International Film Festival in 2022, tells the story of a college student in Michigan taking a pause from her studies after a traumatic event upends her life. Since the movie’s initial screening at OIFF almost two years ago, Disflunecy has continued to win awards at festivals around the country. More importantly, Baumgarten, the film’s writer and director, has been touring theaters, schools, and other screening venues to discuss the film’s themes of dating violence and sexual assault prevention. “I’ve been touring with Disfluency for two years,” said Baumgarten to us recently. “And I’m excited to release the film this summer in theaters! It’s also been great to connect with audiences who are directly impacted by this work.”

If you saw Disfluency at OIFF 2022, you know the screening was unforgettable. Community members, tourists, and artists from around the world shed tears, exchanged stories, and celebrated the courage of Anna’s film. Come see this important movie with an exclusive pre-recorded interview between Baumgarten and festival co-founder Jake Abell following the screening.

This special encore screening of Disfluency (April 10) caps the spring edition of our Awards Retrospective Series. But today, we’re announcing that OIFF will continue our monthly retrospective encores at the Wright Opera House into the fall after this summer’s film festival. Soon, you’ll hear announcements about more films from our archives–shorts, features, documentaries, and animation–all coming back to the Wright Opera House for our monthly screenings. We can’t wait to share new titles for you to enjoy this fall. For now, come to the Wright on April 10 for Disfluency and get your pass to OIFF 2024 while they’re still available!
