Cinema of the Andes Comes to OIFF
The Ouray International Film Festival is proud to present Cinema of the Andes, a special program of films, food, and dance taking place on Saturday, June 20, from 1:15 PM - 4:45 PM at the Wright Opera House.
Presented in three parts, Cinema of the Andes invites audiences to experience stories and traditions from across Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, and Peru, while exploring the unexpected connections between Colorado’s San Juan Mountains and the cultures and communities of the Andes.
The program begins with a block of short films curated by Sisa Quispe, the Quechua-Aymara filmmaker who received OIFF’s Grand Jury Prize in 2024. Crossing national borders with a focus on Indigenous cultures, the films offer a powerful look at identity, place, memory, and cultural connection throughout the Andean region.
Following the screening, festival attendees will be treated to Peruvian cuisine at the Wright Opera House before returning to the auditorium for the world premiere of Apolo Bautista’s short film The Inka of Malvas.
The film follows Sergio Papa Ruark, a queer anthropologist living in the United States, who returns to Malvas in Ancash, Peru, to serve as the leader of his community’s patron saint festival. Sergio will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A alongside Quispe, who produced the project. The program concludes with a live dance performance by Ruark, bringing this celebration of Andean cinema, culture, and community to a moving close.
Single tickets, day passes and festival passes are on sale now.
