Screenwriter Kiwi Smith Joins OIFF for a Conversation with MovieMaker’s Tim Molloy
The Ouray International Film Festival is thrilled to welcome screenwriting legend Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith for a special in-person conversation with Tim Molloy, Editor-in-Chief of MovieMaker Magazine, on Thursday, June 18 at 4:00 PM at the Wright Opera House. This special event is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Smith has co-written some of the most beloved and enduring comedies of the last 25 years, including Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You, She’s the Man, Ella Enchanted, and The House Bunny. Her work has helped define a generation of sharp, funny, character-driven films that continue to resonate with audiences for their wit, heart, and unforgettable heroines.
On the television side, Smith co-created and executive-produced Trinkets, the multi-Emmy-winning Netflix series based on her novel. Her producing credits also include Whip It, directed by Drew Barrymore and starring Elliot Page and Kristen Wiig.
Smith remains one of the most active and exciting voices in screenwriting today. She is currently writing a sequel to The House Bunny for Sony and co-writing a sequel to The Idea of You for Amazon with director Michael Showalter. Other projects in development include an original romantic comedy mystery starring Tessa Thompson and directed by Showalter, an adaptation of the novel Sleep Toward Heaven with Miguel Arteta directing, and a sports comedy starring Kathryn Newton and produced by Jason Blum.
In conversation with Molloy, Smith will reflect on her career and creative process. The event promises to be a lively and insightful discussion for filmmakers, writers, and movie lovers alike.
